This statement bewildered Tally until the next morning when she was invited to brunch with the leader of the Crims, Zane. She told him about the night before; Zane thought it would be a good idea to go and get the bag. To get the bag they had to climb up the control tower on the mansion and get a key to get open the elevator shaft, which then held a bag with two pills and a letter say that when she had got the surgery the doctor erased some of her memory making her dumbfounded; the pills where the cure, however Special Circumstances had heard of the two leaving the brunch and came to take them back. Zane and tally had to split the pills because there was no time.
The next month the pair had become a couple and decided to run away with other Crims to get them the cure, however Zane had been having migraines lately and in new pretty you don’t get migraines.  Zane had broken his hand so when he and tally went to the hospital the doctors gave some pain killers to him; but they had to be given to him when he was put to sleep and when they left the hospital   something crazy in Shay emerged. The day before the selected group of Crims was to leave shay and some undoubtedly  interesting new pretties where seen chanting tribal rituals and slicing open their forearm in hopes of finding another “better” cure. The only way that tally and the other Crims could leave was by hot air balloons; they each jumped separately from the balloons so that they wouldn’t be tracked. Meeting one another in the Rusty Ruins was going to be much more difficult; tally had jumped last and landed in an outside village of unfamiliar spoken languages. From there she traveled to the “end of the world” to the villagers this was the end because there was an invisible wall that would literally kill them if they tried to walk through it. Tally was astounded by this, her friend from the tribal group told her that hover cars filled with scientists came on the holy day which was only a few days away, and that she could hijack one of these futuristic cars. The ride in the hover car wasn’t that difficult until tally got to the rusty ruins; there she screamed hoping anyone was still there. Luckily David, her old ‘friend” in the ugly days, was waiting there for her so that he could take her to where everyone else was hiding out.
What happens when perfection isn't good enough?

Question:    Who is the antagonist? & What is the theme of Pretties?

Tally has been transformed into a pretty.  She really wants to become a part of the “Crims” clique.  Croy, a Smokie, finds her at a Pretty Party and leaves clues to her past life in The Smoke.  Zane, the leader of the “Crims” clique, joins Tally in a search for her past.  Zane and Tally split the cure and each take one pill to cure the pretty brain lesions.  The pills cure them of their brain lesions, however, they are affected differently.  Zane has crippling headaches, while Tally seems to be fine.  The Specials are suspicious of Tally and Zane and fit them with tracking cuffs, to spy on them.  As leaders of the “Crim” clique, they encourage the clique to consume caffeine and expose themselves to adrenalin rushes to combat the brain lesions.  Tally’s friend, Shay remembers Tally’s betrayal in the Smoke and is no longer Tally’s friend.  Shay leads a group of “Crims” and shows them how to cure their brain lesions, by cutting themselves with knives.  They are “Cutters”.

Question: Would you be willing to go through all this to make yourself fit in?

Thursday, 5 December 2013

Pretties is about a girl named Tally that has had surgery to become pretty.Tally Youngblood, the heroine of Pretties, has just been made pretty and is enjoying her new life of parties, gossip, and “bubbly” relationships. Since her surgery, Tally has forgotten a lot from her previous life, including her connections to New Smoke, an alternative society that objects to the universal cosmetic surgery of pretty society. These dissidents have further discovered that the surgery causes brain lesions that impair independent thought. Although they are able to smuggle a cure to Tally, one that restores her memory and individuality, Tally finds herself wondering whether she wants to return to life in New Smoke or whether she prefers to continue her innocent life of pleasure and beauty.
Question:  If you were Tally would you risk your life just to become "PRETTY" ?
